Sb meeting tonight

They might speak and tell a few people to shut their mouths. This whole mess just keeps getting more crazy. The School Board needs to do something and fast.

School board voted 5-3 to close Appalachia and Pound per text I received. They have to have some type of hearing to make it official but it looks like this may be the last year for Appalachia and Pound.

I think the first thing that should be done is to change the names of the schools regardless of cost to help soothe things over. I think this would only be fair to all people involved.

Name should really be the last thing on their list, it's irrelevant, there's dozens of issues that need to be addressed instead of some **** name.

Fine. Close down JI Burton High School. Move all students and teachers to JJ Kelly. Don't change the name. Wouldn't be fair to JI Burton kids at that point either. Athletic uniforms would cost money. A few signs in front of the schools would cost money. I'm assuming letterhead in the office would cost money too. I'm just thinking it would soothe the transition for those people involved. I don't particularly care to be honest. I'm just thinking of the students here.

I understand what you're saying, but they'll get over it, it's just a name and they need to realize that.

I'd be willing to bet that less than 50% of the Appalachia kids actually go to PV next year. I wonder if Lee High will get any of them?

I don't think they're much interested in smoothing things over, just the opinion I get. I'm willing to bet the names will never be changed, at least not in my lifetime.

Lee High will probably get a few, especially those already living in Lee County (Keokee). The percentage of Appy kids who will go to PV will start off at it's lowest point the first year and then steadily rise to 90% or more within a few years.

IMHO those communitys had there chance to do right by the kids and the BOS has already said MANY times that the schools would get no money to help with consoladation so it looks like the SB's hands are tied and they will HAVE to refame from doing any more than simply closeing those 2 schools

To me I think it is more than a little funny that if the county HAD went with the Bashham plan YEARS ago insted of buying out his contract it is VERY Likley that enough pressure could have been put on the BOS to build new schools (Somewhere Basham is having a good laugh)
